New Life Insurance Claims Support

A dedicated MetLife representative is now supporting the NRECA group life insurance program and is located in NRECA’s Lincoln, Nebraska, office as part of a new process for life insurance claims.

Now, if life insurance is in force when an insured individual passes away, the MetLife representative will call the cooperative to collect required information, create the death notification letter on MetLife letterhead and send it to the benefits administrator with the claims package. (The claims package will contain only the claimant statement as the employer statement is no longer needed.) The MetLife representative will enter the employer’s portion of the claim into MetLife’s system in real time, as well as supply all the necessary supporting documentation, which can expedite the claim process when the beneficiary returns their information in a timely manner.

Reporting a death will still be done as you do today; do not contact the MetLife representative to report a death.

The retirement plan distribution unit will continue to call the co-op when life insurance is not in force.

The MetLife representative can answer questions regarding a claim that is in process and assist with questions on the claim form. They can also answer questions on any of the new enhancements to the life program (travel assist, grief counseling, funeral planning and will preparation or estate planning). The new MetLife representative can be reached by calling the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299, Monday through Friday, and asking for the MetLife representative.
