ACA Updates: Deadline Extension, Final Data Report and Webinar Reminder

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently extended the deadline to furnish Forms 1095-B and 1095-C to responsible individuals from January 31, 2018, to March 2, 2018, for Affordable Care Act (ACA) individual mandate and employer mandate reporting for the 2017 tax year. The IRS won’t consider further extension requests for this deadline.

The IRS didn’t extend the deadline to file Forms 1094-B/1094-C and Forms 1095-B/1095-C. Deadlines to file these forms with the IRS for the 2017 tax year remain as follows:

  • February 28, 2018, to file forms with the IRS by paper
  • April 2, 2018, to file forms with the IRS electronically

Automatic 30-day extensions may be requested for these deadlines by filing Form 8809 with the IRS before the due date.

ACA data report
The final data report from NRECA to help cooperatives prepare for the ACA tax reporting requirements for the 2017 tax year will be available by the end of the week. The report will be provided to all co-ops in the NRECA Medical Plan, and those that sponsor a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) administered by Cooperative Benefits Administrators, through the Message Center on the Employee Benefits website. Report notifications will be sent to the co-op’s primary benefits administrator, as indicated in NRECA’s records, for the subgroups he or she administers.
