UnitedHealthcare in Negotiations with Tenet Healthcare Corporation

We are monitoring the situation as contract negotiations continue and are conducting an analysis on available options.

An analysis of alternative hospitals for co-ops is being conducted.

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) is currently in negotiations with Tenet Healthcare Corporation. Tenet operates hospital and physician practices (including Vanguard facilities) in Alabama, California, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois and Massachusetts. Unless renewed, contracts with Tenet will terminate effective July 31, 2014 for 40 of its facilities. The contracts with Vanguard facilities will terminate effective August 15, 2014.

Contract negotiation between networks and providers are a common occurrence. While UHC and Tenet are still in negotiations, a few outstanding issues remain.

We will continue to monitor the situation. Our Health Management Services team is conducting an analysis of alternative hospitals. It appears that most cooperatives have one or more viable alternatives for in-network treatment.
