Special Enrollment Window is Open for Child Life Insurance
The special enrollment window began August 1. Cooperative employees can enroll eligible qualified dependent children in this product without submitting a statement of health form.
NRECA’s partner, MetLife, is providing a special enrollment window for the child life insurance product, which is part of the Group Term Life and AD&D Plan. This period opened on August 1 and is available through August 31, 2014. During this timeframe, employees may enroll eligible dependents without having to submit a statement of health form. Additionally, dependents previously denied coverage by MetLife may be able to secure coverage during this window. Going forward, the child life insurance product is being further enhanced to allow employees the ability to enroll eligible beneficiaries during qualifying events and during your co-op’s annual enrollment period without submitting a statement of health form. Please note that your employees must elect child life insurance coverage for each dependent they wish to have covered.
Taking Advantage of the Special Enrollment Window
NRECA has identified co-op employees who may benefit from this enrollment window. A targeted letter has been sent via U.S. mail to benefits administrators at those co-ops. Potentially impacted employees will also be notified via mail of the enrollment opportunity. Employees wishing to take advantage of this special enrollment window will need to complete a “special child life enrollment form” and turn it in to their benefits administrator (BA). BAs will then need to return a copy of the form to NRECA’s Employee Benefit Services team at EBSMailbox@nreca.coop no later than August 31, 2014. Copies of the form will be included in the mailings to potentially-impacted employees and is available online for BAs.
