Special Enrollment Window for COBRA Qualified Beneficiaries

They can use this one-time window to enroll in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

The Department of Health and Human Services has announced a one-time special enrollment window for individuals currently eligible for or enrolled in COBRA. These individuals have a one-time opportunity to drop COBRA coverage and enroll in a plan offered through the individual Health Insurance Marketplace. That window is now open and runs through July 1, 2014. Individuals should contact the Marketplace at 1.800.318.2596.

Co-ops may want to inform their COBRA qualified beneficiaries about this one-time opportunity. Individuals should contact the Marketplace directly at 1.800.318.2596. There is no standard model notice for informing beneficiaries of this window, but co-ops who wish to do so can find more information about the special enrollment here.
