Changes to NRECA-supported Browsers
As of October 1, 2014, NRECA will no longer support use of the Internet Explorer 8 web browser (IE 8) on Cooperative.com and the NRECA Employee Benefits website. Bugs and performance issues that appear only when using IE 8 will not be investigated or fixed by NRECA after this date. Equally important, many site enhancements currently in development will not work with IE 8 when they are released.
Why are we ending our support of IE 8?
- Internet Explorer 8 is less secure. Earlier this year, Microsoft ended its support for IE 8, which means it is no longer providing security updates to protect against harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information.
- NRECA is committed to providing a modern, rich Internet experience for PC and mobile users. IE 8 does not support key web standards that allow modern websites to be robust, interactive, and mobile friendly.
Upgrading Your Browser
NRECA has seen a significant drop in member use of IE 8 since Microsoft ended its support of the browser this year. However, more than 10% of site visits to Cooperative.com are still made using IE 8.
If your co-op uses IE 8, please consider upgrading to a current version of one of these supported industry standard browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. Upgrading will allow you to enjoy a modern web browsing experience and eliminate the vulnerabilities that come from using a browser that is no longer receiving security updates.
You may want to notify your participants about this upcoming change and the vulnerabilities associated with IE 8 so they can make the necessary changes to their home computers.
