Annual Renewals due September 26

Annual group benefit renewals are due September 26 by midnight Eastern time, but don’t wait to complete yours. If you haven’t done so already, submit your cooperative’s annual renewal early to avoid the last-minute rush. To ensure your co-op’s annual renewal is complete, you need to take action on:

  • Each of your medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance and business travel accident insurance plans—whether leaving a plan as is, making changes to its design or building a new plan
  • All plans for each subgroup you manage

COBRA administration election
Remember, you will be prompted to opt in (elect) or out of COBRA administration by UMR when you log in to the Benefit Plan Rating and Renewal feature of the Employee Benefits website. You must opt in or out of COBRA administration by UMR before you can make other elections. Changes to your COBRA election will only be accepted during the annual renewal period. If you want to change your COBRA election before the annual renewal period deadline, contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299.

Consider sending your renewal early
We encourage you to send your co-op’s annual renewal to NRECA as soon as possible to avoid the last-minute rush.

It’s important that your co-op’s annual renewal is complete by the renewal deadline—or even earlier—so everything is ready for employee annual enrollment, which runs from October 30 through November 26. Taking action by or before the deadline ensures that you receive your summary of benefits and coverage (SBC) in time to distribute for employee annual enrollment (as required by the Affordable Care Act) and that all screens for online enrollment display the correct information.

Don’t forget to review your cost-sharing and participant eligibility information, including excluded classes and definition of retiree for individuals under age 65, for each benefit plan before you submit your renewals. This ensures that the correct information will be included in your summary plan description (SPD) documents as required by the U.S. Department of Labor. All information will be included in your SPDs exactly as you send it, so be careful to review it for typos.
