Mailing to Notify Participants of Drug Coverage Changes

Some NRECA prescription drug plan participants will receive a mailing the week of November 17, 2014 announcing 2015 formulary prescription drug changes.

The mailing explains the changes and provides a list of drugs that are being removed from formulary status. Effective January 1, 2015, these excluded drugs will no longer be covered by NRECA’s prescription drug program unless participants receive prior approval from CVS/Caremark for their use.

Only participants affected by the formulary changes will be notified. Specifically, only participants using prescriptions in bold on the list will be notified. The non-bolded prescriptions reflect past formulary exclusions that participants have previously resolved.

Participants should consult doctor
It’s important that all affected participants consult their doctors, and plan ahead and change prescriptions before January 1, 2015. Participants who use a drug on the formulary exclusion list after this date, without prior approval for medical necessity,  will be required to pay the full cost.

The list contains alternative formulary options for 2015.

Two key exclusions
Formulary exclusions include Accu-Chek test strips for diabetes and Proventil, a rescue inhalant for asthma. Participants using these prescriptions, in particular, are encouraged to consult their doctors and plan ahead as soon as possible to avoid disruption of their health care.

Participants who use Accu-Chek test strips will receive a letter with special instructions necessary to help them make the transition to a CVS/Caremark preferred brand.
