Group Term Life and AD&D Plan Summary of Material Modifications Available July 15
Distribute them to plan participants by August 1; acknowledge distribution by August 15.
Effective August 1, 2014 there will be a change to the NRECA Group Term Life and AD&D Insurance Plan.
- As of August 1, 2014, plan participants no longer need to complete a statement of health form to show evidence of insurability when they elect child life insurance coverage for an eligible dependent child (or children).
- A special enrollment period from August 1, 2014 to August 31, 2014 will allow participating employees to enroll eligible child(ren) who were previously declined coverage or missed the opportunity to enroll.
If your co-op offers the Group Term Life and AD&D Plan, you will have received a message center alert on July 15, 2014 directing you to the summary of material modifications (SMM). Deliver the notice to current plan participants by August 1, 2014. Then complete the online distribution acknowledgement form by August 15, 2014.
Electronic Distribution
Department of Labor regulations allow employers to give out SMMs electronically (usually via email) only to certain employees who can “effectively access” the documents through computers that are an “integral part” of their work duties. Other participants–for example, linemen and meter readers–must receive paper copies.
