Enhanced Identity Verification Procedures Protect You and Your Data

In 2023 alone, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received over two million reports of identity theft.* As information security threats become more sophisticated, organizations are responding with increased vigilance to protect their data. NRECA takes the security of its member data very seriously and continuously reviews its policies and procedures to prevent unauthorized use or access.

One of the ways you, and your cooperative’s employees, may encounter recently updated procedures is when calling into NRECA’s Member Contact Center. This team is on the front lines of responding to a host of inquiries and needs from our membership and frequently needs to provide details pertaining to a member’s individual health or financial information.

Before releasing this type of information, the Member Contact Center representative will need to verify the identity of a caller. To do so, the team employs a series of verification steps for benefits administrators and participants. Recently enhanced verification steps may involve multi-factor authentication methods that use one or more existing contact points (e.g., phone number or email address) on file with NRECA. It is important to review your contact information for accuracy and remind your co-op’s employees to do the same. Up-to-date information ensures a smooth verification process and that personal information remains private and secure. It is equally important for benefits administrators and participants to regularly review their passwords—along with their benefit or account activity—and promptly report any unusual or suspicious situations to NRECA.

Together, we can help maintain the security of NRECA member data.
