Be Sure to Update Board Members’ Benefit Status

When your cooperative has a new board member, don’t forget to enroll them in benefits that they are eligible for, which may include health insurance, life insurance or business travel accident (BTA) insurance. Then, when they separate from service as a board member, don’t forget to terminate their participation in their plan(s). It is imperative that board members’ records are kept up-to-date for both active and separated board members.

Go to cooperative.com > My Benefits > Salaries & Payments > View Group Insurance Invoices to view your invoices to make sure the correct board members are enrolled in health and  life insurance, as applicable. Check your co-op’s records periodically to ensure only your current directors are covered in your plans.

If your co-op provides BTA for board members, you can run an employee benefits profile to ensure the proper people are enrolled in BTA. To do that, go to cooperative.com > My Benefits > Employee Administration > Employee Benefits Profile.

If the new hire or separation has occurred within the past 31 days, use the New Hire or Separation event.

If it has been more than 31 days, send a completed Employee Worksheet (new directors) and a completed Notice of Separation Form (outgoing directors) to Employee Benefits Services at ebsmailbox@nreca.coop
