Preparation Checklist Available to Aid Future Medicare-eligible Retirees
A checklist has been developed to help employees who are 65 or older and are planning to retire understand the NRECA Retiree Insurance Solutions program. If your cooperative makes the program available, the checklist is a resource that you can provide to help prospective post-65 retirees prepare to elect their retiree health insurance benefits through OneExchange.
The checklist is available online and copies can be ordered through the Member Contact Center.
Checklist emphasizes timely action
The checklist stresses the importance of timely action. We recommend that prospective retirees contact OneExchange at least 60 days before they plan to retire or enroll in coverage. Early contact allows future retirees more time to work with OneExchange to find and enroll in the plans that are best for them.
Note: We encourage benefits administrators to let NRECA know as soon as they are aware of the retirement date for a prospective post-65 retiree. This helps us begin the Retiree Insurance Solutions notification process and ensure that OneExchange is ready when the individual makes contact.
We also recommend that co-ops inform prospective retirees if the co-op is providing a premium subsidy, if a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) account is available and the features of the HRA (e.g., the co-op’s contribution). Prospective retirees will need this information when they contact OneExchange.
If you have questions about the Retiree Insurance Solutions program, email them to retireeinsurancesolutions@nreca.org. You also may contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299 or contactcenter@nreca.coop.
