Retiree Insurance Solutions Enrollments on Good Pace as Efforts Continue to Reach Non-responders

Over 65% of post-65 retirees, spouses, surviving spouses and Medicare-disabled individuals who are transitioning group medical and prescription drug coverage have enrolled in replacement plans through OneExchange. And overall, more than 50% of everyone who is eligible to participate in the Retiree Insurance Solutions program has elected some type of individual plan, including dental and vision.

While this enrollment rate is good news, the outreach campaign* to reach non-responders to ensure that everyone who wishes to enroll has the opportunity to do so continues. This week an email with a list of individuals who haven’t contacted OneExchange was sent to each cooperative participating in the Retiree Insurance Solutions program. Each listing contains the contact information NRECA has on file for the individual. We encourage co-ops to reach out to individuals on the list to urge them to call One Exchange so they can understand their options and take action if they haven’t already obtained coverage through another provider.

Why does making contact matter?
It’s important that individuals who are transitioning out of NRECA group coverage on December 31, 2014, take action to enroll in replacement coverage for their benefits. No one will automatically be enrolled in coverage. Individuals who don’t enroll in new coverage before January 1, 2015, will experience a gap in insurance coverage. If they wait longer than 60 days after January 1, they also will lose their opportunity for guaranteed issue coverage, which will make their acceptance for coverage contingent on their health and possibly increase the cost of the coverage they obtain.

If you have questions about the non-responder outreach campaign or other aspects of the Retiree Insurance Solutions program, email them to retireeinsurancesolutions@nreca.org. You also may contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299 or contactcenter@nreca.coop.

*In addition to the email to co-ops, the outreach campaign also has included a postcard that was mailed in early November to individuals transitioning medical and prescription drug coverage and ongoing outbound calls from OneExchange.
