Reminder: Security Protocols to Protect Data Requested by Phone
NRECA is committed to keeping cooperative data secure. To enhance telephone security, the Member Contact Center asks benefits administrators to provide their Rural Electric Administration (REA) number as a means of verification in addition to their name. Other NRECA staff members who provide co-op-specific benefit information by phone also follow this practice.
We also request additional verification information such as: name, last four digits of a participant’s Social Security number, and date of birth or address when receiving a call into our Member Contact Center.
Note: Verification information is passed on internally during a phone transfer so callers should only be asked once for this information.
These enhanced security procedures further secure co-op-specific benefit, financial and personal data.
If you have questions about our phone security procedures, contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299 or contactcenter@nreca.coop.
