Prescription Drug Coverage Updates Taking Effect August 1

CVS Caremark™, NRECA’s pharmacy benefit manager, continually reviews and updates the formulary to help ensure NRECA participants have access to safe, reliable and affordable prescription drugs.

Beginning August 1, 2019, the following drugs will be removed from the formulary and added to the Medications Requiring Prior Authorization list. Criteria considered in the removal of these drugs include less convenient dosage forms, more side effects and higher costs compared to alternative options on the CVS Caremark Drug List.

Note: Brand products are in all caps, branded generics are in upper and lowercase italics and generic products are in lowercase italics.

  • carbinoxamine tab 6mg, dihydroergot spray, doxepin cream, fenoprofen capsule, fluocinonide cream 0.1%, FOLIC-K, FORTAMET (and its generics: metformin er osmotic), GLUMETZA (and its generics: metformin er gastric), glycopyrrolate tablet 1.5mg, lactulose pak, naproxen cr, naproxen suspension, omeprazole-sodium bicarbonate

CVS Caremark will mail a letter by July 1 to participants who are currently prescribed these drugs.

A Message Center notification will be sent in July instructing benefits administrators to download and distribute the supplemental medical plan summary of material modifications to plan participants outlining these formulary changes.
