Coming Soon: A Request for Employee-Paid Medical Premium Data

This month, in order to comply with the reporting requirements of the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) of 2021, NRECA will be asking cooperatives participating in its medical plan for a specific piece of data: the dollar amount of NRECA Medical Plan premiums paid by participants during the 2022 calendar year.

Put another way, NRECA will be asking each co-op to tell us the total amount its employees or former employees paid, through payroll deductions or otherwise, for NRECA medical coverage premiums last year. We will be asking for one total figure for each subgroup, or by co-op as a total, not a breakdown of individual employee amounts.

This total should include:

  • Dollars paid by each co-op’s employees or former employees, through payroll deductions or otherwise, for premiums for NRECA medical coverage in 2022. This information may be available from your co-op’s payroll system.
  • Dollars paid by COBRA beneficiaries and retirees for NRECA medical coverage in 2022. This information may be tracked outside of your co-op’s payroll system.

The total should NOT include:

  • premiums paid for other, non-NRECA medical coverage
  • any vision, dental, disability, life, BTA or other types of insurance contributions
  • contributions paid by employees to tax-advantaged accounts such as FSAs, HRAs or HSAs

In the coming days, all benefits administrators at co-ops offering the NRECA Medical Plan will receive an email containing a link to a page on the Employee Benefits website where this information can be entered. Co-ops will have about three weeks to submit this data to NRECA. If you have questions about this data request, please contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299 or contactcenter@nreca.coop.
