New Information and Resources on Beneficiary Designations
There are many rules surrounding designating beneficiaries for retirement, life, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance and business travel accident insurance benefits. There are also several important actions that participants, and their benefits administrators, must take to ensure beneficiaries are designated according to a participant’s wishes. New pages for benefits administrators in the BA Guide and for participants in Education & Resources on the Employee Benefits website provide helpful information and resources to assist with beneficiary designations for the various benefit plans.
Visit the beneficiary pages to find out about:
- Online tools and events BAs and participants can use to view and update designations
- Paper options (i.e., NRECA Beneficiary Designation Form and NRECA Employee Worksheet) for submitting designations
- Requirements for documentation, regardless of how a designation is made
- Federal requirements for retirement plan beneficiary designation when an employee is married
- Restrictions on designating organizations (e.g., charitable, religious or educational) for retirement benefits
For more on these issues and other details of designating beneficiaries, visit the new beneficiary pages.
