Maternity Program Gives Mothers, Babies A Healthy Start

May is women’s health month, which is a great time to highlight the importance of a healthy pregnancy for mom and baby at your cooperative.

NRECA’s First Steps Maternity Program is designed to support pregnant mothers during this exciting time, providing prenatal care resources, discounts and fun incentives.

Program participants receive one-on-one consultations from a nurse who specializes in OB/GYN and is available to support mothers throughout and after the pregnancy.

New this year is an incentive of up to $150 in MasterCard gift cards for mothers who complete the program.

Other benefits of enrolling in the program include:

• A variety of educational resources related to ensuring a healthy pregnancy.
• Prenatal vitamins (with a doctor’s prescription) at no cost – up to one year after birth.
• Other incentives such as a welcome package featuring a Willie Wiredhand baby blanket and a pregnancy calendar to record appointments and important milestones.

The program is available at no additional cost to all participants with coverage under the NRECA Medical Plan and is administered by UMR, a UnitedHealthcare Company.

In 2015, hundreds of women in co-ops nationwide took advantage of the program’s numerous benefits.

Said co-op plan participant Rebecca McNamara: “I found this program extremely helpful. I loved the fact that I had someone to talk to who knew exactly what was going on in my pregnancy and could give me useful advice.”
