CVS, Walmart Reach Agreement
Earlier today, January 18, 2018, CVS Health announced that they have reached a multi-year agreement with Walmart that would allow for Walmart’s continued participation in the CVS Caremark national and Exclusive Choice networks. CVS indicates that the new agreement accomplishes their top priority of maintaining lower pharmacy costs.
The continued participation of Walmart in the CVS networks allows for NRECA Medical Plan participants to have uninterrupted access to and choice of pharmacies for their prescription needs.
In the spirit of keeping our co-op members apprised of developments that may affect their employees, we notified you earlier this week of Walmart’s announcement to not renew their contract with CVS. As a result of that announcement, had the parties failed to resolve their differences, Walmart would have no longer been a part of the Exclusive Choice and national networks available through the NRECA Medical Plan’s pharmacy benefit.
NRECA is pleased that these organizations have now reached an agreement that will continue to benefit both co-op families covered under the NRECA Medical Plan as well as those with other coverage living in rural communities.
Participants with questions about their pharmacy benefit should contact CVS Customer Care at 888.796.7322.
