Wellness and Prevention: Back to Basics in Q1

In 2019, our wellness communications will center on prevention. Before each quarter begins, look for a wealth of materials to share at your cooperative highlighting preventive steps toward better health.

Here’s a breakdown of the prevention theme for the year:

  • First quarter: Prevention Basics/Know Your Numbers
  • Second quarter: Nutrition
  • Third quarter: Physical Activity
  • Fourth quarter: Community Health

To kick things off for 2019, share these infographics with your employees:

Additionally, NRECA Medical Plan participants who have WebMD MyHealth Manager accounts will receive emails on January 8, February 5, and March 5 encouraging them to learn their health numbers by getting their annual exams, record their health numbers in the MyHealth Survey and explore the NRECA Medical Plan resources available to them at no additional cost. Resources include MyHealth Coaches® (including tobacco cessation and weight management coaching), First Steps Maternity, Centers of Excellence, wellness discounts and more.

You can augment this campaign with these materials available on the Employee Benefits website:

  • Know Your Numbers poster: print and post it in high traffic areas
  • Know Your Numbers postcard: print and hand them out in a meeting, put them in employee mailboxes or drop them on desks
  • Know Your Numbers monitor ads (small and large): use these images on internal monitors, intranets, internal presentations or employee newsletters

Remember, well-being happens one step at a time no matter our starting point, but we do have to know where we stand to know which direction to go. Getting your annual physical or even attending a health screening at your co-op is like finding your location on a map. It’s the steps you take from there that really matter.
