Teladoc Mental Health Changes in 2023
As of January 1, 2023, Teladoc has expanded its mental health services to include consultations for 13- to 17-year-old dependents of NRECA Medical Plan participants. This age group can now use Teladoc Mental Health for phone and video sessions to help them with school stress, family challenges, bullying, depression and other mental health challenges.
The following rules for adolescent (ages 13 to 17) consultations apply:
- They can speak with psychologists, therapists and social workers for a $90 fee per consultation.1
- Prescriptions and consultations with psychiatrists will not be available for this age group. If a Teladoc professional recommends a psychiatrist for an adolescent, the Teladoc Mental Health support team can help find an in-network psychiatrist.
- Before the initial consultation can be scheduled, the following documents must be submitted:
- A consent form signed by at least one of the adolescent’s parents or guardians
- An intake form
- A parent or guardian must be present at the start of each initial consultation.
Participants can schedule consultations online at teladoc.com/nreca, through the Teladoc app, or by calling the Teladoc customer service team at 800.835.2362.
Late fees
Also effective as of January 1, 2023, a $50 fee may be assessed for all Teladoc Mental Health consultations that are missed or rescheduled within 24 hours of the original appointment.
When scheduling a mental health consultation, participants will be asked to save a debit or credit card to their account for this purpose. Teladoc can’t charge late fees to a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) card since penalty fees aren’t HSA- or FSA-eligible expenses.

1In order for a high-deductible health plan to be HSA-qualified, participants must meet their deductible before the plan begins to pay for diagnostic services. For non-high-deductible medical PPO plans, Teladoc Mental Health consultations are subject to the office visit copay selected by the cooperative.
