Reminder: MetLife to Contact Some Directors about Conversion and Portability Options

This process occurs annually for affected participants.

The NRECA Director’s Life and AD&D insurance plan provides coverage for directors, three directors emeritus and one retained attorney, if the cooperative elects. The plan reduces the benefit level annually on January 1 for participants ages 66 to 75. Participants may elect to continue coverage equal to the reduced amount. If the reduction is more than $10,000, they will receive information on portability and conversion as continuation options; otherwise, these participants will receive information only on converting the reduced amount.

MetLife will only follow up if participants contact them
Affected participants will receive this information in the mail from MetLife. If they’re interested in continuing coverage, participants have 31 days to either send their forms to MetLife or contact the company directly at 1.877.275.6387 or by email at solutions@metlife.com. After MetLife is contacted, specially-trained local agents will follow up with participants to review their options.

Note: This reduction is different from the reduction in the Directors AD&D only insurance plan. That annual reduction occurs on the first of the month following the participant’s birthday. Participants may elect to continue coverage equal to the reduced amount through the portability option only.
