Participants Pay Less for Some Generic Prescriptions Through Cost Saver Program
This year, NRECA’s prescription drug benefit offers another way for NRECA Medical Plan participants to save money on some generics.
CVS Caremark®, NRECA’s pharmacy benefit manager, launched Caremark® Cost Saver™ on January 1, 2024. Through the program, CVS will automatically compare the NRECA prescription drug benefit rate to one of the major prescription drug discount programs, then apply the lowest cost to the prescription. As a result, participants will pay less for many commonly prescribed non-specialty generic drugs.
No participant action is required, as the lowest price will automatically apply at the point of sale. Through the Cost Saver program, the participant’s copay and cost share will apply to their deductible or coinsurance maximum, unlike discount programs outside of the NRECA Medical Plan.
Participants can find a list of the most commonly prescribed generic drugs at cooperative.com > My Benefits > My Insurance > Prescription Drug > View Drug Coverage Lists; click on “Performance Drug List.”
Participants can also find a directory of all pharmacies in the CVS Caremark national network at: cooperative.com > My Benefits > My Insurance > Manage Your Prescriptions; then go to Plan & Benefits > Pharmacy Locator. The national network includes pharmacies in the Exclusive Choice network, which save participants the most money. Exclusive Choice pharmacies are identified as “preferred pharmacies” in the Pharmacy Locator.
