Participant SPDs and SMMs Available Online Beginning January 7

As requested by benefits administrators (BAs), summary plan description (SPD) and summary of material modifications (SMM) documents will be available on the Employee Benefits website for participants in the 401(k) Pension Plan, Retirement Security Plan and NRECA Group Benefits Program beginning January 7, 2025.

Participants will be able to view and download their current documents from cooperative.com > My Benefits > Education & Resources > Summary Plan Descriptions. Participants will see only the SPDs and SMMs for plans in which they are currently enrolled. The documents will be displayed by plan type (e.g., medical, dental, life or retirement), effective date and title.

Existing BA access to SPDs and SMMs will not change. BAs will be notified through the Message Center five business days before new SPDs and SMMs are made available to participants so they can review them and prepare for electronic or paper distribution. Documents that are being previewed or that are in process will be tagged on the participant SPD page as “coming soon” until they are available.

SPD and SMM distribution and acknowledgement still required
The online process and requirement for BAs to acknowledge SPD and SMM distribution is not changing.

Cooperatives may use the Employee Benefits website to deliver their SPDs and SMMs electronically to participants eligible under the 2002 Electronic Distribution Safe Harbor (for group and retirement documents) and the 2020 Electronic Distribution Safe Harbor (for retirement documents only).
