NRECA Enhances First Steps Maternity Program

NRECA’s First Steps Maternity Program has supported more than 1,600 women over the past two years during or before their pregnancy, providing maternity coaching, prenatal care resources and incentives.

The program now offers resources for a person – whether it’s the expectant father or another individual – who supports the participant enrolled in the program.

• The support person may now be included on a scheduled call between the enrolled participant and program maternity coach, or one of the scheduled calls can be specifically for the support person.
• Book options, available to the enrolled participant as part of a welcome kit, now include two book topics geared toward the support person.
• The support person can opt in to receive emails with tips on supporting the expectant mother.

First Steps is available at no additional cost to participants in the NRECA Medical Plan who are pregnant, as well as to those who are interested in preconception coaching. Program benefits include one-on-one personalized coaching from a UMR nurse, prenatal vitamins at no cost, educational materials and gift card incentives.
