Notify NRECA of Long-Term Disability Approvals

Approval and timely notification of long-term disability approval for your cooperative’s employees impacts benefit plans that you offer to your employee through NRECA. If your cooperative participates in NRECA’s long-term disability plan, NRECA takes care of the notification and associated benefit plan updates.

However, if your co-op does not participate in NRECA’s long-term disability plan, it’s very important that you notify NRECA via email (ebsmailbox@nreca.coop) or fax (402.483.9362) when employees are approved for long-term disability benefits. Additionally, when you inform NRECA that an employee goes on long-term disability, be sure to note when their long-term disability plan benefits end and when they return to work. Be sure to attach a copy of the approval letter for long-term disability benefits from your insurance carrier that provides the employee’s last day of work and first day of long-term disability coverage.

For questions regarding how benefits work for employees on long-term disability, please refer to your co-op’s summary plan document(s). Additionally, your field representative can assist you with questions on this topic.
