MetLife Evidence of Insurability System Processing Issue Corrected; “Closed Due to No Action” Notices for 2025 to be Released Soon
MetLife recently corrected an issue that affected its evidence of insurability (EOI) system and prevented “closed due to no action” participant letters from MetLife and benefits administrator messages from NRECA from going out.
In cases where a participant requests additional life insurance coverage that triggers the EOI requirement, MetLife closes the application after 60 days if a statement of health (SOH) has not been submitted. The requested coverage is not put in force and a “closed due to no action” letter is sent to the participant. MetLife also sends a file to NRECA, and we send a message to the participant’s BA notifying them of this action. This process usually occurs in March or April but did not for 2025 life insurance elections.
Now that the issue is resolved, “closed due to no action” notices for 2025 activity will be released soon to affected participants and their BAs. This is purely a notification, and no action is required.
This issue only applied to 2025 life insurance requests and did not affect coverage, as no additional coverage was put in force where an SOH was required to provide EOI but was not submitted. Life insurance elections for 2026 remain unchanged, and participants should submit an SOH if required.
