Age 26 Dependent Child Coverage Terminations Extended Through End of Birthday Month Beginning in 2015

Effective January 1, 2015, medical, prescription drug, dental, vision and dependent life coverage will continue until the last day of the month during which a covered dependent child turns age 26, as required by the Affordable Care Act. For example, if a dependent child turns age 26 on June 1, his or her coverage continues until June 30. If the dependent child becomes 26 on June 30, his or her coverage ends on June 30. Currently, age 26 dependent child coverage ends at 11:59 pm the day before the eligible dependent’s 26th birthday.

Message Center alerts that notify benefits administrators of coverage terminations because a dependent no longer meets eligibility requirements will be updated to reflect this change.
