New Security Enhancements to Protect Data Requested by Phone

NRECA is committed to keeping cooperative data secure. To enhance telephone security, the Member Contact Center recently began asking benefits administrators to provide their Rural Electric Administration (REA) number as a means of verification in addition to their name. Other I&FS staff who provide co-op-specific benefit information by phone also will adopt this practice.

In the near future we will begin asking for additional verification information such as: name, last four digits of your Social Security number, and date of birth or address when you call.

Note: Verification information is passed on internally during a phone transfer so callers should only be asked once for this information.

These enhanced security procedures are being implemented to further secure co-op-specific benefit, financial and personal data.

If you have questions about our phone security procedures, contact the Member Contact Center at 866.673.2299 or contactcenter@nreca.coop.
