Prescription Drug Coverage Updates Planned for October 1

CVS Caremark™, the NRECA Medical Plan’s pharmacy benefit manager, has announced changes to the NRECA Medical Plan’s prescription drug formulary effective October 1, 2018.

CVS Caremark continually reviews and updates the formulary to help ensure NRECA participants have access to safe, reliable and affordable prescription drugs.

These products will move from Tier 2 (preferred) to Tier 3 (nonpreferred) within the formulary, which may affect a participant’s copay or coinsurance amount.

  • Aptensio XR Capsule
  • Emend Solution
  • Mirapex ER Tablet
  • Benzaclin Gel
  • Minastrin 24 FE
  • Quillivant XR Suspension

The following products were added to the “Medications Requiring Prior Authorization” list:

  • Lazanda Spray
  • Zolpimist Spray
  • Levorphanol Tablet

The following products were added to the “Preventive Drug List”:

  • Colesevelam HCL
  • Fiasp (insulin aspart)

Participants affected by changes to the tiers and the “Medications Requiring Prior Authorization” list will receive a letter from CVS Caremark in early September.

A Message Center notification will be sent in September referring benefits administrators to NRECA’s Employee Benefits website to download and distribute the supplemental medical plan summary of material modifications to plan participants.

Participants can visit the Prescription Drug page on the NRECA Employee Benefits website to view the most current version of the Performance Drug List, which contains the most commonly prescribed brand and generic drugs covered by NRECA’s prescription drug benefit. Note: Changes listed in this article will not be reflected on the list until October 1. For drugs not on this list, participants can visit the Manage Your Prescriptions page to check on drug coverage, as well as the drug cost.
