Action Requested: Tell Congress to Protect Our RS Plan Benefits!
NRECA is asking for your help on legislation specifically designed to protect the Retirement Security (RS) Plan from unnecessary cost increases in the years to come. We hope you will encourage your cooperative’s employees to log onto Action.coop to ask their Congressional representatives to protect their earned retirement benefits by passing the “Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act of 2016” as soon as possible.
What does the legislation do?
This legislation will greatly reduce insurance premiums paid by the RS Plan to the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation by over 80%, saving co-ops in the RS Plan approximately $30 million in 2016 alone.
This “finishes the job” NRECA started in 2014, when we successfully advocated for enactment of the Cooperative and Small Employer Charity Pension Flexibility Act of 2014, which saves co-ops millions of dollars a year and repealed the federal deficit reduction contribution that could have made rates even more unpredictable and expensive.
How you can help
Yesterday, NRECA CEO Jim Matheson contacted all CEOs at co-ops participating in the RS Plan, urging them to join him in this effort. We ask you to join this effort and work with your CEO to encourage your employees to log onto Action.coop today, to ask their elected Congressional representatives to protect their RS Plan benefits by passing the “Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act of 2016.”
