Use Caution When Dialing Toll-free Numbers

When dialing toll-free phone numbers, it can be easy to accidentally dial the wrong area code. There are six toll-free area codes, all beginning with 8, but they are not interchangeable.

When calling the NRECA Member Contact Center, please be careful to dial the appropriate area code: 866.673.2299. The representatives at the Member Contact Center will always identify themselves as being with NRECA and will never try to sell you products. Recently, members have reported accidentally dialing 877.673.2299 and being connected to spammers who attempted to acquire the callers’ personal information while offering “free” prizes. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Member Contact Center, check your caller ID to ensure the phone number begins with 866.

Always be wary of phone calls from unknown numbers and from callers wanting your personal information, selling products or offering products for free.
